CVE-2026-85880 is a heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call (ALPC) that allows an authorized local attacker to elevate privileges. Exploitation can provide kernel read/write access and SYSTEM privileges, including escape from a low-privileged AppContainer context. The BlueMoon exploit kit uses ALPC communication and Windows Notification Facility (WNF) mechanisms to exploit the flaw after compromising a Chromium-based browser. Its observed implementation enables SeDebugPrivilege in the renderer token before injecting code into the parent browser process. The vulnerability was actively exploited before Microsoft released security updates in September 2026.

A Windows kernel privilege-escalation vulnerability exploited alongside two Chrome V8 vulnerabilities by BlueMoon Exploit Kit to execute malware outside the browser sandbox.
A Windows kernel privilege-escalation vulnerability used as the final exploit in BlueMoon's chain. The exploit obtains kernel read/write access through ALPC and WNF mechanisms and enables SeDebugPrivilege in the renderer's token. This permits injection into the browser's parent broker process to download and execute malware outside the renderer sandbox. The implemented exploit supports only certain older Windows builds, so a vulnerable browser alone does not guarantee successful compromise.
A Windows kernel privilege-escalation vulnerability involving RtlpCreateServerAcl, reportedly used in a zero-day chain following Chrome compromise.
Critical Windows security vulnerability affecting multiple Windows 10 and Windows Server releases. It is listed in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, indicating credible evidence of active exploitation, and Microsoft-provided security updates are available.
