Copy2Pwn (CVE-2024-38213) is a Windows Mark of the Web security feature bypass affecting files copied from WebDAV shares through Windows Explorer. Vulnerability exploited by Sandworm (UAC-0212).
A Windows Mark of the Web bypass in which Windows Explorer does not apply MoTW when copying files from WebDAV shares. Attackers distribute malicious files through those shares to evade origin-based protections. The article links exploitation to DarkGate campaigns and installation of LummaStealer to steal sensitive data.
A vulnerability exploited in phishing campaigns targeting suppliers, logistics companies, grain-equipment manufacturers, and industrial-control integrators. Visiting a link in a lure PDF, combined with exploitation of the flaw, downloads a disguised .pdf.lnk shortcut. Opening the shortcut executes PowerShell to display a decoy document, download malicious EXE/DLL payloads, and establish persistence. CERT-UA tracks the activity as UAC-0212, a subcluster of UAC-0002.
A previously patched Mark of the Web security feature bypass vulnerability that was exploited in the wild as a zero-day.
