CVE-2024-20399 is an OS command injection vulnerability in the Cisco NX-OS command-line interface. Insufficient validation of arguments passed to specific configuration CLI commands allows an authenticated administrator to submit crafted input and execute arbitrary commands as root in the underlying Linux operating system, escaping the NX-OS management interface. Affected products include Cisco Nexus 3000, 5500, 5600, 6000, 7000, and standalone NX-OS-mode 9000 series switches, and MDS 9000 series switches running vulnerable releases. Velvet Ant exploited the vulnerability as a zero-day to deploy backdoor malware on compromised switches.
