CVE-2023-41064 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple’s ImageIO component affecting iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Apple stated that processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution and that the issue was fixed through improved memory handling. Available technical analysis associates the flaw with WebP image decoding logic used during Huffman table construction for lossless WebP data, where insufficient bounds validation can allow malformed image data to drive out-of-bounds writes during table population. Apple reported that the vulnerability may have been actively exploited in the wild, and public reporting linked it to the BLASTPASS zero-click exploit chain used to deliver Pegasus spyware.
