CVE-2023-38606 is a kernel security vulnerability in Apple operating systems that was fixed through improved state management. Apple described the issue as allowing an application to modify sensitive kernel state. Public reporting further associates the flaw with kernel-level exploitation and Page Protection Layer (PPL) bypass in iOS exploit chains, including Operation Triangulation and later Coruna-derived tooling. In practical exploitation chains, the vulnerability has been used as a post-compromise kernel component to weaken or bypass kernel memory protection mechanisms and facilitate deeper compromise of the device. Apple reported awareness of active exploitation against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.7.1.
