CVE-2023-29059 identifies a software supply-chain compromise that embedded malicious code in digitally signed 3CX DesktopApp releases, exploited in March 2023. Affected Electron Windows versions are 18.12.407 and 18.12.416, shipped in Update 7; affected Electron macOS versions are 18.11.1213, 18.12.402, 18.12.407, and 18.12.416. Compromised bundled libraries executed malicious code while retaining normal application functionality and retrieved additional payloads from attacker infrastructure. The Windows infection chain used DLL sideloading and encrypted shellcode. The analyzed macOS variant implemented malicious functionality in _run_avcodec() within the x86_64 sublibrary, but not the ARM64 sublibrary. Follow-on payloads included a browser-targeting information stealer and, on selected systems, the Gopuram backdoor.
