CVE-2022-41128 is a type confusion vulnerability in the Internet Explorer JScript9 engine caused by incorrect just-in-time compiler optimization. Rendering an attacker-controlled website can trigger arbitrary code execution on an affected Windows system. APT37 exploited the vulnerability as a zero-day in October 2022 using malicious Microsoft Office documents that retrieved remote RTF templates and HTML content rendered through Internet Explorer. This delivery mechanism worked even when Internet Explorer was not the default browser and avoided requiring a separate Enhanced Protected Mode sandbox escape. Microsoft patched the vulnerability on November 8, 2022.
