CVE-2021-24092 is a local elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in Microsoft Defender that allows a non-administrative local user to overwrite arbitrary files by creating a hard link that targets the driver's log path. The flaw arises from improper handling of file operations on a privileged path, enabling an attacker to redirect a write performed by a higher-privileged Defender component to an attacker-chosen file. Successful exploitation can be used to replace or corrupt protected files and thereby escalate privileges on the local system.
