CVE-2018-8373 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Windows VBScript engine affecting Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11. During an array-element assignment, AccessArray saves the address of an element before invoking an object's default Property Get method. That method can shrink the array using ReDim Preserve, freeing the referenced element. AssignVar subsequently reuses the saved address, accessing freed memory. Successful exploitation can enable remote code execution. The vulnerability was exploited in the wild, including in attacks attributed to DarkHotel.

Listed as a vulnerability leveraged in an exploit chain to fully compromise targeted systems; no vulnerability-specific technical details are provided.
An Internet Explorer VBScript scripting-engine vulnerability exploited by DarkHotel as a zero-day in August 2018. The article reports that Microsoft patched it in September. Restrictions on automatic browser-based VBScript execution offered limited mitigation, but the article describes continued exploitation through embedded Internet Explorer frames in Word documents.
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Windows VBScript engine that enables remote code execution. Resizing an array during a property getter frees an element whose address the engine subsequently reuses during assignment. The content includes proof-of-concept code illustrating the flaw.
