CVE-2017-11774 is a security feature bypass affecting Microsoft Outlook 2010 SP2, Outlook 2013 SP1 and RT SP1, and Outlook 2016. Outlook's legacy folder Home Page feature renders remote web content using Internet Explorer components. Malicious page scripts can obtain an OutlookApplication object through an Outlook ActiveX control or the window.external interface, then invoke its CreateObject method to instantiate a command-execution object, bypassing Internet Explorer security-zone restrictions. An attacker with compromised mailbox credentials can remotely configure a malicious folder Home Page through MAPI. Execution occurs when Outlook synchronizes and renders the page or refreshes the affected folder.
