CVE-2017-0263 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Windows kernel-mode Win32k function xxxDestroyWindow that allows a local user to elevate privileges through a crafted application. Affected platforms include Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 10 initial release and versions 1511, 1607, and 1703, and Windows Server 2016. Observed exploitation obtains kernel window-object addresses through HMValidateHandle and replaces the current process token with the SYSTEM process token. APT28 exploited the vulnerability as a zero-day alongside the Microsoft Office EPS vulnerability CVE-2017-0262 to escape a sandbox and execute malware with elevated privileges.
