CVE-2016-0034 is a memory-corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Silverlight 5 before version 5.1.41212.0. The BinaryReader class initially validates an index, but its unsafe InternalReadChars method subsequently trusts results returned by a user-supplied decoder's GetChars implementation. An attacker-controlled return value can produce an invalid negative offset in a subsequent iteration, permitting memory modification and object-header corruption. Exploitation through a crafted website can result in arbitrary code execution or denial of service. The vulnerability was exploited as a zero-day and subsequently used in exploit kits and watering-hole campaigns.

A Microsoft Silverlight memory corruption vulnerability used here via a repackaged exploit delivered through watering-hole infrastructure.
A Microsoft Silverlight memory-corruption vulnerability in the BinaryReader class. A user-defined decoder can return an incorrect value that corrupts an index used in unsafe pointer operations, allowing memory modification. Researchers detected an exploit affecting a user on November 25, 2015. Attribution to Vitaliy Toropov and a connection to Hacking Team remain unconfirmed.
