CVE-2015-2546 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows Win32k kernel-mode driver, associated with xxxSendMessage and the tagPOPUPMENU object during User Mode Callback handling. A local user can exploit it through a crafted application to elevate privileges. Affected platforms include Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, Windows RT and RT 8.1, and Windows 10. Platinum used the vulnerability after exploiting CVE-2015-2545 in Microsoft Office to elevate execution to SYSTEM. Exploits were also identified in Ursnif and Buhtrap malware.
