TacTap is a Linux-based credential-collection toolset used against TACACS authentication servers. It injects a malicious library into the running tac_plus process, intercepts accepted TACACS sessions, and records harvested credential material in an obfuscated local artifact. The toolset uses interprocess communication to transfer accepted connection handles from the injected component to a separate collection process. TacTap has been observed in intrusions attributed to the China-nexus Fire Ant activity cluster, which has been assessed as potentially related to UNC3886, though that attribution is not conclusive. Its use against centralized network-device administration infrastructure enables theft of privileged credentials that can support subsequent access to managed network environments.

Toolset reportedly injected into the tac_plus daemon to intercept credentials from within the process.
A credential-theft toolkit deployed on compromised TACACS authentication servers. It includes the acppid utility, which injects a malicious library into the tac_plus process to intercept new connections and capture active-session data.
A TACACS-targeting toolset that injects a malicious library into tac_plus, intercepts accepted administrative sessions, and captures credential material in an XOR-obfuscated artifact.
TACACS+ credential-collection toolset that injects a malicious library into tac_plus, hooks new authentication connections, passes session handles to a second local process, and stores captured credentials in an XOR-obfuscated file.
