GrayFish is a sophisticated Windows cyberespionage platform associated with the Equation Group and developed as a successor to EquationDrug. It was deployed to new victims while the older EquationDrug platform remained in use. GrayFish resides in the Windows registry and relies on a bootkit to gain execution during operating-system startup, providing persistence while minimizing conventional on-disk payload artifacts. It also abuses vulnerable legitimate drivers to obtain kernel-mode execution, a bring-your-own-vulnerable-driver technique that supports privileged execution and defense evasion. GrayFish forms part of the Equation Group's broader espionage arsenal, alongside EquationLaser, DoubleFantasy, TripleFantasy, and Fanny.
