Storm-3068 is a Microsoft-tracked threat actor associated with a cloud and DevOps intrusion involving Azure DevOps and Kubernetes environments. The actor compromised a user identity by abusing a self-service password-reset process, then registered attacker-controlled authentication methods to retain access. Using the compromised account's legitimate permissions, Storm-3068 enumerated Azure DevOps projects, repositories, pipelines, deployment environments, and connected resources. The actor created and modified Azure DevOps pipelines to deploy a Kubernetes agent and collect kubeconfig files containing cluster connection and authentication material. It also altered pipeline scripts to install the Atera remote-management tool and obtain the Chisel tunneling utility, establishing an alternate remote-access path and reverse tunnel that could facilitate interaction with Kubernetes environments. The activity relied on legitimate cloud services, administrative tooling, automated scripts, and existing account permissions rather than a software exploit or custom malware.
