UAC-0244 is a Ukraine-focused threat cluster that conducts malicious-application distribution and social-engineering operations against Ukrainian users, including military-related communities. CERT-UA determined that activity previously tracked as UAC-0247 was conducted by the same individuals as UAC-0244. The actor has used impersonation websites posing as Ukrainian military organizations, humanitarian initiatives, and other services to entice victims to download malicious applications or archives. It distributed the CamelSpy Android malware, which collects device location, SIM-card details, contacts, call logs, and stored images. In Windows-focused operations, UAC-0244 used malicious shortcut files, HTA-based execution, and WebDAV-themed delivery to deploy a loader and an encrypted reverse shell. The loader established scheduled-task persistence, used direct system-call resolution, and injected decoded shellcode into a legitimate Windows process. The resulting backdoor executed remote commands and returned encrypted command output. The group has also used obfuscated scripts, delayed payload execution, and decoy documents and websites to reduce detection and increase lure effectiveness.
