Secret Blizzard, also known as Trula, is a Russian-nexus cyber espionage threat actor. It has been identified among multiple Russian-linked advanced persistent threat groups conducting espionage activity against Ukrainian targets. In observed activity, the group exploited or attempted to exploit CVE-2025-8088, a critical WinRAR path traversal vulnerability, as part of operations aligned with intelligence collection objectives. The exploitation pattern associated with this campaign used malicious archive files to deliver payloads through path traversal and hidden content in Alternate Data Streams, resulting in execution via a malicious shortcut after user interaction and subsequent login. Secret Blizzard’s inclusion in this cluster of Russian-linked operators targeting Ukraine is consistent with an espionage mission rather than financially motivated intrusion activity.
