Cloud Snooper is a threat actor publicly identified in February 2020 and associated with compromises of Linux servers, including servers in Asia. Its distinctive toolset combines a server-oriented Linux kernel rootkit with a user-space backdoor named Snoopy. The rootkit hooks netfilter traffic-control functions to enable covert command-and-control communications that traverse firewall restrictions, supporting stealthy remote access to compromised systems. Cloud Snooper has also deployed NoodleRAT, a cross-platform remote-access trojan also known as ANGRYREBEL and Nood RAT. This malware supports file theft, remote command execution and traffic proxying. Its Linux variant provides reverse shells, file management, scheduled tasks and SOCKS tunnels, while encrypted communications and platform-specific persistence mechanisms support continued access and concealment.
