Damselfly is an Iranian espionage threat actor active since at least 2014. It is also tracked as Charming Kitten and Mint Sandstorm. The group is associated with state-aligned cyber espionage activity and is known for targeting individuals and organizations of intelligence interest to Iran. Its operations have commonly centered on credential theft and social-engineering-driven initial access, particularly through phishing and impersonation, in support of intelligence collection. Damselfly is part of the broader ecosystem of Iranian intrusion activity that includes multiple overlapping clusters and aliases used by different vendors and governments to track Tehran-aligned operators. High-confidence reporting identifies the actor as Iranian and characterizes it primarily as an espionage-focused group.
